The Jefferson Community Players will hold an Open House and Casting for their 2012 theatrical season on January 29 from 2 to 4 pm and January 30 from 7:30 to 9 pm at the Jefferson Senior Center, 54 Schoolhouse Road, Jefferson Township. Directors are also invited to attend the open house and discuss the opportunities to direct projects and submit projects for consideration. Registration for the Open House and Casting is requested. Male and female performers with all levels of acting experience are invited to read for a variety of works selected for performance. Plays selected include: "Catch Me If You Can" (a mystery suspense), "Vanities", "Anne of Green Gables", "Miracle on 34th Street", "Little Women", and a variety of one act plays. Details about the productions, including plot synopses and character requirements can be found by selecting the 2012 Open Casting tab on the left.
To celebrate Women's History month, director Dina Nicholas will cast for her program "Five Famous Women" to be performed March 24. The program will include selected scenes from "The Miracle Worker" and "The Diary of Anne Frank". Girls ages 12 - 16 are invited to audition for the roles of Helen Keller and Anne Frank. Other part of the program will feature an interview with Rosa Parks and the poetry of Maya Angelou and African American women (ages 20 - 65) are invited to the casting dates.
Members of the Players "Uncorked" improv group will be at the open house to demonstrate their techniques and invite newcomers to join their group. The Uncorked Improv group, under the leadership of Dawn James, meets on Sunday evenings from 6 to 8 pm at the Senior Center.
In addition to performing at various venues in Jefferson Township, the Players have developed several programs to perform at other venues within the Morris County area. Membership in the Players is free and open to all. Residency in Jefferson Township is not required. Opportunities are also available for those who prefer to participate behind the scenes, such as set design and construction, costuming, lighting, sound and stage crew technicians.
